- Just a Few
- Observations:
-
- It seems like everyone is
working in their high security little labs and not even attempting
to work together. Mobil Communication companies are working toward
web access, hardware innovators are working toward mobile communications,
and so on. If a group of perhaps three or four of the now unrelated
companies would work together, this technology would be fact,
not fiction. A unified OS will not come about by itself! Software
engineers ,like Be, Inc., Sun and Linux, seem to be the closest
to the PIA in regards to open architecture programming that is
accessible to all types of gadgets and PIA's but they seem to
be short sited about the broad scope that their programming needs
to cover. The WebPad by Cyrix/Viatech was on the verge of being
PIA when it was introduced as a prototype in November/December
of 1999 but has since died at the starting gate because Cyrix
is a processor OEM and has not been able to find a manufacturer
that can deliver this product as envisioned. In March 1999, Cyrix
was able to sign Tatung
as an ODM (Original
Design Manufacturer) But the product release, scheduled for 3Q
1999 is not forthcoming.
-
- Why can't we all just get
along!
